Katakolo is a seaside town in the municipality of Pyrgos in western Elis Greece, overlooking the Ionian Sea. Travelling 35 km away you can reach ancient Olympia. A holy and international city located between Alfeios and Kladeos rivers.

Once at the PanHellenic religious sanctuary of ancient Greece can someone see where the ancient Olympic games were held. The site was primarily dedicated to Zeus. The Olympic games were held every 4 years throughout classical antiquity, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.

The archaeological site held over 70 significant buildings and ruins of many of these survive, although the main Temple of Zeus survive only as stones on the ground. The site is a major tourist attraction and has two museums, one devoted to the ancient and modern games.
